UMRAUM:KURATORIUM

Project spaces are those autonomous and independent art places, which exist in a state of constant flux. While some appear others disappear from the map of contemporary art, they nevertheless are the basis for progressive artistic production and presentation. As opposed to the ever-changing map of project spaces in Berlin, the few examples in Budapest often stand out and are still influential after their closing. As non-governmental and non-commercial art places are precarious in general, Project Zone proposes a long-term interactive process with a first display at Art Market Budapest. The initiative's aim is to map, document, and think further the history and current situation of Berlin and Budapest based project spaces.

The presentation of Project Zone at Art Market Budapest 2014 included a documentation area, assembling information about Berlin based project spaces. Besides selected articles, the accompanying material of the Senate Chancellery of Cultural Affairs project space prize and a publication on the Budapest independent art scene by IMPEX was on view.
